Minutes of Active Directory Committee meetings.
DC StatusNo problems
OU Admin rights have been modified to allow them to move computers from the Computers OU to the Administrator's OU.
OU Administrators also have been given write access to a subdirectory in the Netlogon (scripts) directory. This will allow them to create login scripts for their OU on the DCs.
Roaming Profiles were discussed. A potential problem with hosting them on the DCs is disk space.
Home directories were also discussed. For faculty/staff this probably won't be an issue, since they will fall under one OU, and that OU admin will assign the home directory. The main problem occurred when we considered Home directories for students. Since none of the OU Admins have rights over the student OU, one of the Domain Admins would have to assign rights. However, if two different OU Admins want to assign the same student a home directory, we run into a conflict (as with dual majors, etc).
Patrick proposed assigning individual drive letters to OU Admins, but that will only work for the first 20 departments. This problem will warrant further consideration.
Print Quotas were discussed. Charles explained how Computer Science was doing print quotas and monitoring. The point was also brought up about how to handle multiple quotas. If each OU granted it's students a certain amount of printing, we might have a student that gets 200 pages in CBA, 300 pages in CompSci, and the basic 100 pages in the IS labs. Merely setting the quota to 600 pages wouldn't work, because that student could exceed any of the individual quotas as long as they were below the aggregate quota. This problem will also warrant further consideration.
